my special space

In case you have ever wondered what my studio looks like... here is a little view of the front social area of my space, where I spend time with friends and clients drinking tea, listening to music, talking and reading art books. The top image (taken from the upper mezzanine area where I have my admin offices) shows my lovely glazed front door, the lower image shows one of my very large light paintings amidst the framed photography and pots full of art pendants and other collectibles.

Happy Days - we have a winner!!

Well yesterday marked the end of my 10 day Pay It Forward giveaway here on the Green Island Studios blog.
I have just entered all of the entries into the random number generator and it came up with lucky number 43!! That's you Sabine, La Marquise des anges, congratulations on winning the June Giveaway!!

Sabine chose Sea Pinks as her prize, so I will hand print it this week and it will be winging its way to Sabine in the South Of France very soon.

Sabine, please let us all know what you decide to do to continue to pay it forward.... I love to hear where the good fortune goes next.
The happy days picture featured on today's post is one of a series i took a few years ago and lost... but I stumbled across a shoe box full of discs this week as I was clearing out at my studio and was pleased to find a whole load of "lost" art :)) More to follow soon

Happy Weekend y'all!!

Jo xoxo

In Infinite Time

Lazy Sunny Afternoon by Jo Bradford

"In infinite time,
in infinite matter,
in infinite space,
is formed a bubble-organism,
and that bubble lasts a while and bursts,
and that bubble is Me."

~Leo Tolstoy~
{from Anna Karenina}

I have had a very busy week this week, making lots of new pretty things in my studio, and processing photos from the many photoshoots I've done recently. Far and away my favourite photo outing this week was a twilight shoot with Megan and Steph on their horses.... photos to follow shortly......

highs and lows

Poppytalk by Jo Bradford

I have had a bittersweet week this week, as I got together with two different groups of my photography students to hang and open their end of year shows.
I recently wrote a GCSE darkroom photography course, and this year I delivered it twice weekly to my first guinea pigs cohort - a group of 14 to 22 year olds at a local sixth form college.
After a year of hard work and an extremely steep learning curve, working with manual film cameras and printing in a black and white darkroom, they have produced some outstanding work. I was so proud to see them gathered with their wonderful work last night and really really sad that I won't be seeing them weekly anymore... Although I know we will all stay in touch... I'm missing them already :(
My more mature HND commercial photography group also had their opening night of their show last night, and I am proud to say that their work is diverse and of a high standard. It was lovely to see them all and admire their work on the walls of the gallery.
I am one proud mommie lecturer!!
The Green Island Studios 10 day giveaway is gathering momentum, there is still time to enter if you haven't already {click here}........
Huge thanks to modish, poppytalk, living cozy, venetiajewelry and handmade little lovelies for mentioning my humble little giveaway on their blogs ...

Got giveaway fever?? Here are a few more places you could win yourself a little something special...
pretty little lovelies

Have a good weekend folks!

Free Giveaway at Green Island Studios!

I have been having a very lucky and serendipitous week :)
Having seen so many happy returns on my own pay-it-forward efforts recently, I am now back in pay-it-forward debt.
So to remedy this immediately, and as my April giveaway proved so popular, I am going to offer up another print for someone out there to win.

All you have to do to be in with a chance of winning one of my 8" x 8" or 8" x 12" prints is to have a look through the pictures in my Dawanda open edition print store, then leave me a comment here telling me which one you would like to win. And if you're a blogger and you don't already follow my blog, then please add me to your follow list.

This 10 day free giveaway will close on the 19th June 2009. I will let the Random Number Generator pick the winner on the 20th of June.

{I hope the lucky Winner will decide to Pay It Forward to some other lucky folk out there in the big wide world, but that's totally up to you}

thirst is a dangerous thing

Three Men in a Boat by Jo Bradford
"Let your boat of life be light,
packed with only what you need -
a homely home and simple pleasures,
one or two friends, worth the name,
someone to love and someone to love you,
a cat, a dog, and a pipe or two,
enough to eat and enough to wear,
and a little more than enough to drink;
for thirst is a dangerous thing. "
Jerome K. Jerome ~ Three Men in a Boat

Rest is not Idleness

Rest is not Idleness a short series by Jo Bradford

“Rest is not idleness,
and to lie sometimes on the grass under the trees
on a summer's day,
listening to the murmur of water,
or watching the clouds float across the sky,
is by no means a waste of time”

~John Lubbock~
