Fluxfest at Museum Of Contemporary Art, Chicago

FLUXFEST at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago, Illinios

February 15-20: This exploration of Fluxus activity includes contemporary re-interpretations of classic Fluxus scores and actions; new Fluxus performances by Fluxus artists. Performers include the Chicago Fluxus Ensemble and invited Fluxus artists.

A piece of my art (and a portrait of me with it) is in this interesting little event at the Chicago Museum of Contemporary Art this week.   The space picture below is the art in question, it is a digital copy of the artwork that is going to space on board NASA's Space Shuttle Endeavour in April this year.

Book covers

Two of my pictures have been licensed for book covers recently, and both by Berlin publishing houses co-incidentaly.

These are the pictures in question.....

I will be asking my friends in Germany to keep their eyes out for these books in a bookstore near them in the very near future.

Hopes and aspirations

I have been working with this beautiful young lady recently.  Harriet commissioned me to create a new portfolio of images for her, she is hoping to break into the world of plus size modelling and will be taking her new portfolio to Paris and New York soon.

I think she has a wonderful career ahead of her - she is both lovely to work with and drop dead gorgeous too!

Good luck Harriet!!

Night, when words fade & things come alive.

"Night, the beloved.
Night, when words fade & things come alive.

When the destructive analysis of day is done,
and all that is truly important becomes whole and sound again.

When man reassembles his fragmentary self and grows with the calm of a tree. "

Silent, soft and slow

{ Winter 1 by Jo Bradford }

{ Winter 2 by Jo Bradford }
--------------------------
Out of the bosom of the Air,
Out of the cloud-folds of her garments shaken,
Over the woodlands brown and bare,
 Over the harvest-fields forsaken,
Silent, and soft, and slow
Descends the snow.

{Henry Wadsworth Longfellow}

If this is not enchantment, then where is it to be found?

 'Winter 8' by Jo Bradford
--------------------------------------------

The first fall of snow is not only an event,
it is a magical event.
You go to bed in one kind of a world
and wake up in another quite different,
and if this is not enchantment
then where is it to be found?

No such thing as bad weather.....

'Winter 5' by Jo Bradford

--------------------------------------------

Sunshine is delicious,
rain is refreshing,
wind braces us up,
snow is exhilarating;
there is really no such thing as bad weather
only different kinds of good weather.

~John Ruskin

'To The Sea' 2011 Calendar

This year I have pushed the boat out and have created not one, but three calendars for 2011.

The first design is 'To The Sea', those of you who bought the 2010 calendar will recognise this one.  It has exactly the same photos as the 2010 edition, and has been made available for 2011 by popular demand, for people to buy as gifts for friends and family who have admired their 2010 calendar this year.

I hope that there is a calendar here to please everyone  :)

New Folksy Shop

Hi Folks!!

It has been a while since I posted anything, but with good reason, I have been so busy with my photography commissions, exhibitions and residencies that I have not had time for anything else besides.

After several years of selling my work in the Brooklyn, New York, based Etsy site and the Berlin based DaWanda Site,  i felt it was about time I started selling from a UK based platform and after much deliberation I have chosen to sell at Folksy.

So if you are a British buyer of my work you no longer have to shop for my art in dollars and euros - you can shop with me at Folksy and pay in pounds :)

Here is a screenshot of my brand new Folksy shop

Hope to see you over there soon :)

Up, up and away!!

Up, up & away! by Jo Bradford, 2010

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The soundtrack to my early twenties were the hauntingly beautiful melodies of the melancholic Englishman, Nick Drake.  His music still stops me in my tracks for a moment of quiet contemplation and his lyrics often run through my mind when I am working creatively.
The song "I was made to Love Magic" has some beautiful lines in it...
I was born to use my eyes
Dream with the sun and the skies
To float away in a lifelong song
In the mist where melody flies.
I was made to love magic...
I was born to sail away
Into a land of forever
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Happy Friday folks, I hope your weekend is full of sunshine and smiles!!

The Old Man and The Sea

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
'The clouds were building up now for the trade wind and he looked ahead and saw a flight of wild ducks etching themselves against the sky over the water, then blurring, then etching again and he knew no man was ever alone on the sea.'
The Old Man and The Sea by Ernest Hemingway was first published on this day, the 8th September, in 1952.  The above excerpt is one of my favourite lines from the book, one that considers man versus nature.
