White Horses

Here is one of the new works from the "Light Is Like Water" series that I made in February for the Poppytalk Handmade Show. This work is on my "table" at the current "Green Pop" Poppytalk Market. Come and see....
...
By the way, I have been working 11 hour shifts in my darkroom over the past 10 days making new work. My creative streak is still in full swing and I am making the most of it!! I will upload some of those new creations any day now, so watch this space.

j'adore la hellebore

I have several different Hellbore plants in my studio at the moment, they are such strangely beautiful plants. Here are a few more of the pictures I have made of them recently, I find it hard to walk past them without stopping a while to capture them from another angle.

I Have A Bird In Spring

I Have A Bird In Spring ~ by Jo Bradford

...
I have a Bird in spring
Which for myself doth sing –
The spring decoys.
And as the summer nears –
And as the Rose appears,
Robin is gone.
...
Yet do I not repine
Knowing that Bird of mine
Though flown –
Learneth beyond the sea
Melody new for me
And will return.

Can't see the wood for the trees

At FrauWaldi's suggestion, she and I have made a diptych of of our polaroids this week for the polanoid diptych project. I think the weird bluey greens of my expired 669 film shot here in Cornwall go very well with FrauWaldis chocolate film shot in the Black Forest, Germany.....

Spring clean

I have spent a second day painting my studio white all over. It needed a bit of sprucing up, and with the help of my lovely landlord John, I now have 5 new picture shelves to stack my work up to ceiling height on my new white walls (sure beats having them all leaning up against the wall and littering the floor!!) Can't wait to get in there tomorrow when the paint is dry) to put out all my new work. I will take some pictures and post them when I am all done....

waves pound the shore

Waves pound the shore by Jo Bradford
...
I have just finished reconditioning one of my collection of vintage typewriters. This one is an Imperial Good Companion 4, a lovely little lightweight machine with a retro sparkly metallic turquoise green finish. I love how light the keys actions are considering it is a machine from the early 1960's. After typing up a few poems and to do lists, I started pulling prints off the wall and typing on them yesterday afternoon, as you can see from the TTV picture above. The text on this picture (of my local surfspot known as the Badlands) is a lovely quote (surprisingly, perhaps?) by Mohammed Ali.

classic poisons

Hellebore by Jo Bradford
...
It's hard to believe that the subltly beautiful hellebore holds such a dark secret.... It is, after all, one of the four classic poisons--along with nightshade, hemlock, and aconite

always a rose

Always A Rose Parts I, II & III are available to buy in my etsy store

...
The rose is a rose,
And was always a rose.
But now the theory goes
That the apple's a rose,
And the pear is, and so's
The plum, I suppose.
The dear only knows
What will next prove a rose.
You, of course, are a rose
But were always a rose.

Sunshine dreams

Having mentioned last week that I was loving the colour yellow at the moment, I saw these Craspedia stems in the village florist the other day and had to buy some just because they remind me so much of the sun!!

vintage camera porn

Here are a couple of cameras that still see a lot of action, gotta love those old TLRs. And for the polaroid nerds amongst us, this was shot with one of my vintage packfilm polaroid cameras (the good old 104 Automatic) on expired Polacolor 679, (that green colour cast is thanks to the emulsion being 10 years out of date...)
Love it

A night of dark intent

Nature has many ways of reminding us how small we are in the grand scheme of things. It has been a stormy week here, with tremendous thunderstorms, high winds, rain, hail and big seas.
...
...
The shattered water made a misty din.
Great waves looked over others coming in,
And thought of doing something to the shore
That water never did to land before.
The clouds were low and hairy in the skies,
Like locks blown forward in the gleam of eyes.
You could not tell, and yet it looked as if
The shore was lucky in being backed by cliff,
The cliff in being backed by continent;
It looked as if a night of dark intent
Was coming, and not only a night, an age.
Someone had better be prepared for rage.
There would be more than ocean-water broken
Before God's last 'Put out the Light' was spoken.

The Old Yellow Fellow

Today I am having a yellow day, no doubt because I am craving a bit of sunshine, a glimpse of the "old yellow fellow" as grandad used say :)
